
VALLEY CITY, ND (Ryan Cunningham, NewsDakota.com) Montana Tech handed the Viking basketball teams a pair of losses to wrap up a weekend road trip to Montana Sunday.
The Viking women trailed 38-15 at half, scoring only two points in the first quarter of their Sunday tilt in a 71-44 loss to Tech. Valley City State defeated the Orediggers in their matchup in Valley City earlier this year.
VCSU was 1-22 from the field in the first quarter, and shot 5-30 from the three-point line for the game. JayCee Richter led the Vikings with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Viking men also had a tough start, trailing 37-19 at the break, falling 76-64 to the Orediggers. The Vikings shot 24% from the field in the first half, and were 1-10 from the three-point line.
J. R. Cison scored 18 to lead three in double figures. Alex Lester scored 13, and Logan Deal added 11.
The Viking women will not play again until January 2nd. The men will host Dakota Wesleyan Saturday.
