CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- Tuesday night marked the beginning of a new era of Carrington boys basketball, and they knew it would be tough against last years’ state finalist, the Devils Lake Firebirds.  But Max Palmer made it even more difficult.

The senior set a school record with ten three pointers, breaking a mark held by Beau Brodina and Grant Nelson, and a 33-0 run led to an 80-25 win for the third-ranked Firebirds in the East Gym.

Palmer, who had six threes Saturday in a win over Jamestown, buried his first one to give Devils Lake (3-0, 2-0 Region 2A) the lead for good at 5-2.  But after Carrington (0-1, 0-2 Region 2A) got a Tate Wolsky layup to cut the lead to 10-6, the Firebirds delivered a brutal knockout punch to the tune of a 33-0 run that spanned from the 3:38 mark of the first quarter until the 3:42 mark of the second quarter for a 43-6 lead.

That left one bit of drama, as Palmer tied the record in the third quarter and was substituted before Devils Lake HC Dustin Brodina was informed of the situation.  He then re-entered Palmer, who buried a left wing three to set the new mark.

Carrington are back in action on Friday night at home against Thompson as part of a doubleheader with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal and KDAK on YouTube beginning at around 5:45PM.
