FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The American Red Cross has a few reminders for motorists who get stranded during a blizzard.

Blizzard conditions are dangerous especially when visibility drops to zero in the open country. It’s a good time to remind people about being safe if you get stranded inside your vehicle.

Stay in your car and wait for help. Call 9-1-1 to notify the local dispatch center that you are stranded. Run the engine for 10 minutes each hour with the heater. And remember to keep the exhaust pipe clear of snow when running your vehicle, and slightly open a window on the opposite side of the strong wind gusts.

Make sure you have candy bars to eat in your vehicle.
