MOORHEAD, MN – The holiday season should be happy for a hot Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Basketball team.  Not that it won’t be happy for the Jimmie women, but the time away may be a time for them to regroup.

On Saturday, the Jimmie men kept themselves in a tie for the NSIC North lead with a 93-83 win over MSU Moorhead at Nemzek Fieldhouse, Jamestown’s fifth consecutive win.  The Dragons handed the Jimmie women their fourth straight loss 76-49.

Men: Jamestown 93, MSU Moorhead 83
Jamestown (7-6, 5-2 NSIC) made eight of their first nine shots from the floor on their way to shooting 58 percent from the field and defeating MSUM (7-6, 4-3) in men’s basketball for the first time since 1998.

Anthony Walters had the highest-scoring game for a Jimmie this season with 29 points, including five three-pointers. Owen Hektner, playing for the first time against the program where he spent three seasons, poured in 20 with four threes. Davis Walker scored 13.

UJ had a 48-39 halftime lead after shooting 61 percent in the first half. After a three by Hektner just under two minutes into the game, the Jimmies never again trailed.

Walters knocked down a three-pointer with 11:21 left and Jamestown led 69-50. But MSU Moorhead forged an 11-0 run to move within 83-79 on a Landin Hacker three-pointer with 2:47 to play.

Jamestown then ended the game on a 10-4 run.

Isa El-Amin led the Dragons with 19 points in their third straight loss.

UJ and Minnesota Duluth share the NSIC North lead at 5-2, a game ahead of MSU Moorhead, Minot State and Northern State.

Women: MSU Moorhead 76, Jamestown 49
Trying to snap a losing streak, Jamestown (4-7, 2-5 NSIC) played a solid first quarter, after which they led 22-21 and in which they hit eight of 12 shots.

But a three-pointer by Emily Kurkowski with 58 seconds left in that first quarter turned out to be the Jimmies’ last field goal in the first half. MSU Moorhead (6-5, 2-4) then outscored Jamestown 24-6 in the second period for a 45-28 halftime lead.

At last, the Jimmie field goal drought of 15:05 ended when Haidyn Crockett hit a jumper with 5:53 left in the third quarter, but the Dragons ran away with the game in the interim.

Grace Massaquoi lead four MSUM players in double-figure scoring with 17 points.

Daviney Dreckman scored 11 with six rebounds for Jamestown. Crockett and Jessika Lofstrom each had 10 points.

The Jimmies will return to Harold Newman Arena, hosting Northern State on Saturday, January 3. Coverage will begin at 12:30 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1. Live and archived video will be available on the NSIC Network.
