CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- Maddox McIlonie scored a game high 25 points and 5 steals but the Cardinals (0-3) came up short 60-56 against the visiting Woodchucks from St John (1-2). McIlonie scored all 25 points in the 2-4 quarters with 10 in the 2nd, 7 in the third, and 8 in the fourth which included a game high 3 made 3-pointers. Taylen Mehring added 12 points and Alec Threadgold chipped in 10 points for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals built an 11 point lead at 37-26 midway through the third quarter before the Woodchucks finished the third on a 15-4 run that tied the game at 41-41 heading to the fourth. The Cards had chances late but had 8 turnovers in the final quarter that sealed their fate. Twenty-one total turnovers overall with 13 in the second half helped the Woodchucks to the victory.
St John was paced by Tayden Longie with 17 points and 15 from Madden Parisien. Caolton Wilson added 8 points off the bench for St John. Both teams made 25 field goals and both teams made 4-3 pointers. The Woodchucks advantage came at the free throw line making 6-for-12 while the Cards made just 2-for-6.
