VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 25 Presents: Mike Watterson “Ultimate Africa: Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe & South Africa” 7:00 PM Thursday, January 15th, 2026, at the Barnes County Museum. (315 Central Ave N. Valley City, ND)
This presentation is about the African animals, including photographing the “Big Five” – the Cape Buffalo, the African Elephant, the Leopard, the African Lion, and the Rhinoceros.  Mike and his wife Randi spent 15 nights in tented camps and safari lodges in private game reserves and National Parks. Their days featured morning and afternoon game-viewing drives, boat cruises, and walks for an incredible African safari experience.
Mike Watterson is a retired educator. He taught and coached in the Valley City School System until the spring of 2013.  Since retiring, Mike and Randi have embraced the joy of travel, exploring new destinations and immersing themselves in different cultures. From wandering through historic cities to enjoying incredible landscapes, they find endless inspiration and adventure wherever they travel. All Lectures are at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum and held in conjunction with Valley City State University.  They are free and open to the public.
