
JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Jimmies ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey was more than ready in their return from the holidays, and the Wolfpack paid for it.
Sixth-ranked UJ scored a season high in goals Monday in a 7-2 win over North Carolina State at Wilson Arena.
NCSU (13-8-1-0) scored first as Joey Gouveia scored 7:02 into the game.
Carson Brown’s 10th goal, assisted by Raymond Warrack, evened the game for Jamestown (15-10-1-0) at 16:51 of the first period, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
Darius Makse then turned the game the Jimmies’ way in the second period. He scored shorthanded from Brad Fortin at 4:53, then scored again at 8:09, assisted by Malachi Franklin and Kaelan Shelton, and UJ led 3-1.
Their lead 4-1 after 40 minutes due to Warrack’s fourth goal, set up by Brown and Griffin Bourassa, at 10:36.
Two power play goals early in the third period by UJ put the game away. Fortin scored his 13th from Warrack at 4:00 and Jordan Baranesky popped in his fourth from Brown and James Hooton at 6:01. Just 1:12 later, Matthew McIntyre widened the Jamestown lead to 7-1, assisted by Tanner McCracken.
Jack Ammons scored on a shorthanded breakaway for NCSU with 7:56 remaining.
UJ goalie Brandon Weare needed to make just 11 saves. The Jimmies outshot the Wolfpack 47-13.
Jamestown will return to Midwest Collegeiate Hockey play Friday and Saturday against Midland in Fremont, Nebraska.
