VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCPS) – One of the priorities in Valley City Public Schools over the past two years has been improving student attendance across all schools. Following COVID-19, daily attendance rates declined nationwide, and this remains an important area of focus for our district. The attached Semester 1 attendance report summarizes the number and percentage of students in each grade level who have missed more than 10 days of school during the 2025–2026 school year. The data shows that absenteeism increases at the elementary level, with the highest percentage occurring in Kindergarten (8.9%). Overall, 4.5% of students district wide have missed more than 10 days of school so far this year. Regular attendance is critical, as missed instructional time directly impacts student learning, engagement, and success. If your child has missed 10 or more days of school this year, you will be receiving a notification from the school. In alignment with district policies and procedures, school staff will meet with students and parents/guardians to review attendance concerns and develop an attendance plan when needed. These procedures are designed to support students, encourage consistent attendance, and address barriers early. Valley City Public Schools is committed to working with families and will continue to provide support through school-based and community resources. If you need assistance or supportive services related to attendance, please contact your school or the district office.
