DEVILS LAKE (NewsDakota)- The Carrington boys basketball team started fast and had to hang on for a 66-60 victory over the Warwick Warriors. The Cards jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead and opened up the second quarter with a quick basket to take the biggest lead of the game at 19-4. Taylen Mehring would score 18 of his game high 30 points in the first half which included three three pointers and finished the game with a game high six made three pointers.
Warwick would mount a comeback out scoring the Cards 25-20 in the second quarter and 19-14 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 51-48. Mehring would hit a half-court buzzer beater to end the third quarter that pushed the Cards back in front. The game had eight lead changes and ties all in the second half. Alec Threadgold added 14 points for the Cardinals and Maddox McIlonie added nine points.
The Cards made 11-14 free throws for 79 percent and the Warriors were perfect at the charity stripe going 7-7 all attempts from Anthony Touché. Touché dropped in a team high 26 points for the Warriors and Rylan Redfox added 11 points. The Warriors (0-7) made nine three pointers with Redfox making three from long range.
