CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- The Carrington girls basketball team picked up a big Region 2A win over the visiting Lady Indians of Four Winds-Minnewaukan 45-33. The Cards jumped out to 13-4 advantage after the first period with Aniston Hoornaert scoring six of her 11 points in the opening quarter including a three pointer. Mya Neis added a three ball as well in the opening quarter to help open up the early lead. The Indians would outscore the Cards 23-18 in the middle quarters cutting the lead to 31-27 after 3 quarters. Maara Kutz would score 15 of her game-high 16 points in the final three quarters with six points in both the second and third quarters. Harper Kollman added eight points to aid the Cardinal victory.
The Cards had an outstanding defensive performance holding the Indians to 33 points and allowing Suri Gourd 16 points (13 below her season average of 29 ppg). The Cards put the Lady Indians in bad spots forcing up shots throughout the game. Besides Gourds 16 points, Patience Dunn added eight points and Cailee Hanson would drop in six points.
Four Winds-Minnewaukan dropped to 8-2 overall (4-2 region) and the Cards improved to 7-3 overall (5-1 region). The Cards will travel to Northern Cass on Saturday for a boys/girls doubleheader starting at 2:45 pregame on Thunder 98.3
