VALLEY CITY, ND (Ryan Cunningham, NewsDakota.com) After an evaluation yesterday regarding the floor at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse, Valley City State received a mixed bag of news.
The bad news: no game this weekend at “The Bubble” with their rival and travel partner.
Final analysis shows the floor will not be playable Saturday after a water issue at the gymnasium led to leakage into the floor.
The portion of the floor affected is a small portion, and there was hope the game would still be held in Valley City on Saturday, but there was enough damage to conclude that the surface would not be safe for game play.
Valley City State plans to find a venue today to play the games with Mayville State. The game has been scheduled for Saturday. The Vikings would like to keep the game scheduled for Saturday, but the venue could play a role in when the game is played.
The Vikings have played at Mayville State already this year, and moving the game to Mayville is likely not an option the Vikings would consider.
The good news: there is still hope for the rest of the season.
Yesterday’s evaluation could have ruled the W. E. Osmon out for the season, but officials are hopeful the Vikings may be able to return home next weekend when Valley City State hosts Dakota State Friday and Bellevue University Saturday.
Following this weekend, the Vikings have one home series left of the season, scheduled for February 20th and 21st.
