GRAFTON (NewsDakota)- It may not have been perfect on Thursday night, but for the Cardinal girls, they kept their winning streak alive.
Maara Kutz led a balanced effort with fourteen points and Carrington (9-3, 7-1 Region 2A) held off a fourth quarter charge from Grafton (4-7, 3-6 Region 2A) by a count of 43-37 on the road Thursday night.
Kutz and the Cardinals got off to a fast start, thanks in large part to their press defense, and the Cards led 13-3 after one and 26-13 at the half. In the second half, Kutz scored six points in the third as Carrington held a double-digit 38-26 lead after three despite Elle Schumacher scoring nine of her fifteen for the Spoilers in the quarter
In the fourth, Carrington’s offense slowed to only two field goals but they limited Grafton to eleven points, all by Schumacher and Gabi Ray, in holding off a rally to seal their seventh straight win.
Carrington return to play on Tuesday night at home against Devils Lake with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal and KDAK The Cardinal on YouTube beginning at around 6:45pm.
