ST. CLOUD, MN – In the bitter cold of Minnesota, the night ended bitterly for Jamestown Jimmies basketball.

Jamestown’s women couldn’t keep the good going after a five-point halftime lead and lost to St. Cloud State 79-72 at Halenbeck Hall for the Jimmies’ 10th straight loss.

As the Jimmie women did, the men put on a late rally before the Huskies sent UJ to its third straight loss, 77-70.

Though the first half was sprinkled with turnovers for the Jimmies (4-13, 2-11 NSIC), they did shoot well and held a 39-34 lead after 20 minutes.

But as the third quarter began, the turnovers continued for Jamestown as the buckets stopped falling. St. Cloud St. (7-11, 4-9) scored the first 14 points of the third quarter and 20 of the first 26. SCSU outscored Jamestown 27-10 in the third quarter as the Jimmies were limited to just four field goals and committed eight turnovers. For the game, UJ had a season-worst 26 turnovers. The Huskies led by as many as 17 points with 2:31 to play before Jamestown cut the lead to the final margin.

Jada Eggebrecht scored 29 to lead St. Cloud St. Rachel Kottke scored 21.

Jessika Lofstrom established a career-high with 24 points to pace Jamestown. Allie Berns scored 12.

Men: St. Cloud St. 77, Jamestown 70
St. Cloud State (14-5, 11-2 NSIC) used the outside threats of Luke Winkel and Bob Griechen and the inside play of Wyatt Hawks to lead most of the game before Jamestown (9-10, 7-6) cut a 17-point lead to five in the last three minutes.

Winkel scored 24 with six rebounds and three assists. Greichen had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Hawks also achieved a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while matching a career high with six blocked shots.

Owen Hektner, who couldn’t play in the Jimmies’ home losses last weekend due to an injury, led Jamestown with 19 points and seven rebounds while sinking five three-pointers. Anthony Walters scored 15, but was held to 4-of-15 shooting. Thomas Diew scored 10.

St. Cloud St. led by as much as nine in the first half and by 38-32 at halftime. A three-pointer by Hektner with three minutes gone in the second half had Jamestown down only 42-37, but a 19-3 run over the next 3:46 put SCSU into a 56-40 lead. The Huskies led 70-55 with just over four minutes to go, but UJ was down five after a Thomas Diew layup with 33 seconds to go.

Through Friday, Jamestown stood in a four-way tie for the NSIC North lead with MSU Moorhead, Northern State and Minnesota Duluth at 7-6.
