BUXTON (NewsDakota)- Going into Monday night’s region game at Central Valley High School, the deck was stacked pretty high against the Carrington boys, with senior Tate Wolsky out through injury. And while the Cardinals fought back from deficits time and again, Hillsboro/Central Valley proved too much in a 66-49 win over Carrington for their fourth consecutive victory.

The game started with a 10-0 run for the Burros (5-6, 3-2 Region 2A) but the Cards (3-10, 0-7 Region 2A) immediately went on a 9-2 run in response to cut the lead to three, but that was as close as it would get as H/CV went on an 7-2 run to close the quarter.  That lead was extended in the second, as Chase Haffely scored eight of his game-high 21 points in the quarter and the Burros led 38-20 at the half.

Halftime adjustments were made by Cardinal HC Randy Hooey, and his team played much faster in the third quarter, as balanced scoring helped the Cards cut the lead to 52-41, but Carrington never got closer, despite good minutes from seventh-grader Adrian Oatis and a career-high ten points from sophomore Hayden Hagel.

The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, February 3rd at home against New Salem/Almont with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal on YouTube beginning at around 6:15pm.
