
BISMARCK – This just doesn’t happen very often, but it did Tuesday.
Jamestown Blue Jays Girls Basketball shocked the Century Patriots 59-56 at Olson Gym, the first win in 13 years for Jamestown over Century in girls’ basketball.
In boys’ play, top-ranked Century remained undefeated with an 88-53 rout of Jamestown.
Girls: Jamestown 59, Century 56
Jamestown (6-6, 4-5 WDA) trailed 10-2 early before rallying to take a 34-21 halftime lead, as Macey Neumiller hit two three-pointers in the first half and scored 11.
Century (9-3) was as close as 46-44 before Jamestown scored the next six points, with two Neumiller buckets sandwiching two free throws by Hannah Attleson. The Blue Jays led 52-44 with just over three minutes to play.
Jamestown then led by 10 in the last minute before Century scored seven straight points in under 40 seconds, but Neumiller clinched the win with a last free throw with 10.2 to play.
Neumiller led Jamestown with 23 points. Milan Martin had nine.
Kaylie Welstad scored 13 for Century and Lakyn Johnson had 11, each with two three-pointers.
This was Jamestown’s first win over Century since Jamestown/Medina won 47-46 at home on February 19, 2013. The Patriots had won 28 straight games over the Blue Jays before Tuesday.
The Blue Jays have won three straight games for the first time since late last season.
Boys: (1)Century 88, Jamestown 53
Century (13-0, 9-0 WDA) cruised to their 28th consecutive win behind 28 points from Garrett Nisley and 22 from Gibson Kinnebrew.
Jamestown (3-9, 1-8) was led by Eric Van Berkom with 14 points. Jamison Kleinjan had 12. Edison Walters scored eight.
Jamestown was down only 11-6 about four minutes into the game when the Patriots ripped off the next 19 points. Century led 47-21 at halftime.
