Lidgerwood, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornados girls trailed by 13 in the half but they wouldn’t let that stop them from mounting a ferocious 2nd half comeback against the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds. They would come up just short in the end despite even getting a lead in the 4th quarter. They would fall 44-39.

The game started with all Warbirds to begin as Oakes wasn’t able to get much going on offense being held to only 3 1st half baskets as they would fall behind in the 1st quarter 10-5. The Warbirds would then expand that lead to 13 as they would take a 24-11 lead into the locker rooms.

The Tornados would not go quietly however. They started the 3rd with a 10 point run to make it 24-21. The Warbirds would eventually return to a 9 point lead with a 34-25 lead after 3 quarters of play. Oakes once again wouldn’t give up the fight as Jillian Miller would put up 8 in the final frame to help give Oakes a 39-38 lead. That lead would not hold however as Oakes would be unable to score for the rest of the game and the Warbirds would walk away with the 44-39 victory.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Jillian Miller with 16 points on the night.

With the loss the Tornados fall to 1-5 in District 1 play and can not finish higher than 7th in the District Standings.

They wrap up District play against Richland on Thursday in Oakes. You can catch the game on KDDR The Tornado with pregame scheduled for 6:45 PM.
