JAMESTOWN – In a rare chance this season to perform at home, Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Volleyball delivered.

UJ picked up its first win of the season Saturday, defeating Dordt in four sets, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22 at Harold Newman Arena.  It was the first of three home matches this season for the Jimmies.

Jamestown (1-4) had a strong attack match from Chase Hawkinson, who had 21 kills (.447), a solo block, four block assists and five digs.  Ladarius Williams had 14 kills (.194) with eight digs.  Kaden Jenkins had 39 set assists and six digs.

Overall, the Jimmies attacked very effectively, hitting at .306 for the match, .429 in the first set and .370 in the second set.

Hawkinson killed to end the first set, which Jamestown won even though Dordt (1-1) led much of the set.  The Defenders led 22-21 before committing three attack errors.

In the second set, Jamestown ran away.  Hawkinson had two kills and a block on the way to a 19-9 UJ lead.

A tight third set was 19-19 before Cory Kuperus had two kills late in the set, including the clinching point for the Defenders.

Williams had three kills in the deciding set for the Jimmies, who had three five-point leads before holding on.

Jamestown will next play Friday against Viterbo and Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa.
