JAMESTOWN – At last, the ordeal is over for the Jimmie women.  For the men, they are a division leader again.

Jamestown Jimmie Women’s Basketball ended their 12-game losing streak Saturday with a 57-53 victory over Sioux Falls at Harold Newman Arena.  Jamestown’s men won their second straight and moved into sole possession of the NSIC North lead with an 87-73 win over USF.

Women: Jamestown 57, Sioux Falls 53
Eight weeks after their previous win, Jamestown (5-15, 3-13 NSIC) survived a tough shooting day by seeing Sioux Falls (10-12, 7-9) shoot only 19 percent from the floor and hit only four two-point baskets.

The Jimmies led by eight twice in the first half before the Cougars came back for the lead twice. A Jessika Lofstrom tip-in in the last seconds gave UJ a 28-26 halftime lead.

After Sioux Falls briefly led in the third quarter, Samantha Paulsen hit three three-pointers in a 15-7 run and the Jimmies led 46-42 through three quarters.

Alexis Rose hit a three to bring USF within 48-47 with 5:58 left, but Emily Kurkowski, with her parents from Australia in attendance, hit a three and a jumper and the Jimmies led 53-47. Anna Fronk hit two free throws for the Cougars with 1:28 left and they were down 55-53, but Allie Berns and Jordan Munson then hit free throws to preserve the Jamestown win.

Haidyn Crockett scored 12 to lead Jamestown. Jessika Lofstrom had her second double-double this season and third as a Jimmie with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Berns had 10 points and eight rebounds. Kurkowski also scored 10.

Jamestown had last won December 6 at home against UMary.

Men: Jamestown 87, Sioux Falls 73
Anthony Walters recorded his sixth career 30-point game and second as a Jimmie in the win that gave Jamestown (11-11, 9-7 NSIC) sole possession of the NSIC North Division lead.

Walters hit four three-pointers and had three rebounds and three assists for the Jimmies, who built a 22-6 lead early. Twice, Sioux Falls (12-10, 9-7) came within six points, but Walters scored 10 points in a 13-4 second half run that put Jamestown up by 15.

Thomas Diew scored 13 points off the bench for UJ. Ford Okehi scored 12 and Zeke Austin hit a career high 11 points.

Jamestown leads Minnesota Duluth and Northern State by one game at the top of the NSIC North standings and has a two-game lead over MSU Moorhead.
