CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- The Carrington boys basketball team has had its’ ups and downs in the 25-26 season, but after a week of work between games, they finally got their reward for the effort they’ve put forth all season.

Carrington (4-10) got three players in double figures and defeated New Salem/Almont 51-47 on Tuesday night inside the East Gym.

The first quarter saw matching boxscores as Taylen Mehring and Elias Smith each knocked down a pair of threes and the game was tied at 10 through one.  The second quarter began with a 7-0 run for the Holsteins (10-3) for a 17-10 lead, but the Cards immediately responded with an 11-0 run to take a 21-17 lead.

The third quarter saw Alec Threadgold take over inside against New Salem/Almont’s 1-3-1 zone as the Cards extended to a nine-point lead on three occasions during the quarter.  In the fourth, Kolter Miller hit two of his four threes for the Holsteins, but a late press-breaking basket by seventh-grader Radke Hooey ensured Carrington’s five-game losing streak would end.

The Cardinals host Lisbon on Thursday at around 6:45pm on KDAK The Cardinal on YouTube.
