JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Law enforcement agencies in the area continue to receive reports of scammers posing as law enforcement officers and making false claims in an attempt to pressure people into sending money.
According to the Jamestown Police Department and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office this is a growing tactic, and they want the community to be informed and protected.
Remember no law enforcement agency would demand payment for the purchase of gift cards, deposit cash at a Bitcoin ATM, send money orders, or make wire transfers.
Police business that involves enforcement action is conducted in person, not over the phone.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and verify independently by calling our department through a publicly listed number, not the number the caller provides.
If you believe you have been targeted or have already sent money, please contact us immediately at 701-251-6200, 701-252-9000, or 701-252-1000. Let’s look out for one another and stop these scams together.
