JAMESTOWN – The start of the NCAA Division II era for Jamestown Jimmie Softball has started well.

In their first two games of 2026, the Jimmies swept a doubleheader from the University of Providence 12-2 and 4-3 Thursday inside the Nelson Family Bubble.

Game 1: Jamestown 12, University of Providence 2 (5)
Big offense helped the Jimmies win by run rule. The biggest offense came from first baseman Sydney Grendler, who had a career game at the plate with a double, home run and four RBI. Grendler hit a two-run double in a six-run second inning and a two-run homer in a five-run fourth inning.

Hope Ransome (1-0) benefitted from all the offense in the circle. She pitched the first four innings, allowing two runs and three hits with five strikeouts and a walk. In her Jimmie debut, Aubrey Quern pitched a perfect fifth inning.

Maddie Spaeth drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and double. Madelyn Webb hit a two-run double. Tori Olson and Sydney Rogers had RBI singles.

Game 2: Jamestown 4, University of Providence 3
UJ completed a comeback from 3-0 down when Lauren Weigel hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kasydi Bennett reached on a Providence error to begin the rally, then took second on another error. As Trinity Gregg walked, Bennett stole third base. Bennett was then thrown out trying to steal home, but Gregg took second before Weigel’s winning hit.

Amanda Burch drove in the first Jimmie run in the fourth with an RBI double. Jamestown tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Kylie Yanzuk and a sacrifice fly by Kate Geiszler.

Quern relieved Maddie Hairgrove and earned her first collegiate win in the circle with three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. Quern allowed five hits, but struck out three and stranded Providence runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Jamestown will play twice on Friday inside the Nelson Family Bubble against UMary at 11:00 AM and Northern State at 1:30 PM. These will be non-conference games.
