
Walhalla, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Carrington boys wrestling team went 3-0 in the Northeast regional dual championships with wins over Thompson, Northern Lights, and Pembina County North. The Cardinals allowed a meager 33 total points in 3 duals and lost 3 contested matches all day. The Cards forfeited the 189 pound weight class in all 3 duals that accounted for 18 of the 33 total points allowed on the day. The Cards knocked off the Thompson Tommies 60-6 to start the day in the quartefinal round. The Cards picked up forfeit wins at 121 (Landin Clifton), 133 (Skye Kramlich), and 285 (Charlie Jorgenson). Winning by fall were Gabe Inglish (114), Layton Sauvaugeau (127), Jaxson Wilson (139), Kallen Wolsky (152), Gabe Clifton (160), Nic Garber (172), and Jacob Hinrichs (215). Chase Steadman won a 7-6 decision over Garrett Krebs to start the dual at 107 pounds and Michael Vandehoven won an exciting 10-7 decision over Mason Bartels in sudden victory overtime. Thompson scored 6 points at 189 where the Cards forfeited to Jaxson Tozer.
The semifinal round was another dominate Cardinal showing as they defeated Northern Lights (NL) 62-12. The Cards would get wins by fall at 133 (S. Kramlich), 139 (Wilson), 160 (G. Clifton), 172 (Garber), 215 (Hinrichs), and 285 (Jorgenson—fall 10 seconds). Ridge Kramlich (107), Inglish (114), and L. Clifton (121) all received forfeit wins to start the dual and led 18-0 before Mason Cook took the mat at 127 pounds and defeated Andrew Tandeski by major decision 15-7. The Cards built a 34-0 lead before NL picked up a win by fall at 145 pounds from Kayden Houle. Kallen Wolsky added a 13-2 major decision over Dane Decoteau.
The championship match had the top 2 seeds battling it out but the Cards turned it into a lopsided contest right away and cruised to a 56-15 win. The Cardinals would take a commanding 32-0 lead after the 139 pound match where Wilson pinned Oakly Brown at 3:39 of the second period. L. Clifton (121), S. Kramlich (133), and G. Clifton (160) all picked up forfeit wins. Jorgenson (285), Garber (172), Wolsky (152), and Inglish (114) all won by fall. Other winners included Ridge Kramlich (107–11-5 dec) and Mason Cook (127–17-1 tech fall at 2:00). PCN received a forfeit victory and 189 and a fall at 145 from Abel Enerson and a 5-2 decision at 215 for Gavin Symington over Hinrichs.
Both Carrington and PCN will advance to the state dual tournament on Saturday, February 21st. PCN defeated Hillsboro-Central Valley 48-30 in a true second place challenge match after losing to Carrington in the finals.
