
JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Jimmies Softball had 13 hits Saturday and defeated VCSU 6-2 inside the Nelson Family Bubble. Jamestown completed a perfect first weekend, starting 5-0. VCSU is 0-2.
Aubrey Quern earned her second win in the circle for Jamestown with four and two-thirds scoreless innings, striking out three. She entered the game in the first inning for Maddie Hairgrove, who walked three and allowed a run on an RBI fielder’s choice by the Vikings’ Logan Gronberg.
Jamestown put together a four-run rally in the third inning on an RBI infield single by Maddie Spaeth, a sacrifice fly by Madelyn Webb, an RBI single by Sydney Grendler and an RBI double by Natalie Draper.
Joria Hainsworth extended the Jimmie lead to 5-1 in the fifth with an RBI single. Webb had another sacrifice fly in the sixth.
VCSU scored their other run in the seventh from a Kylee Banerd RBI double.
Maddie Hazelton took the loss for the Vikings, giving up five runs and 10 hits in five innings with two strikeouts and a walk.
Jamestown will next play February 20 in the second Nelson Family Bubble event against Concordia College at 9:00 AM and UMary at 1:30 PM.
VCSU will play UMary in a doubleheader in Jamestown Sunday at 9:00 AM.
