Fargo, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Carrington girls wrestling team started the day with a mild upset win over the seventh seeded West Fargo United (WFU) team, winning 42-36. The Cardinals opened the dual with a forfeit win at 100 pounds for Aysa Reimche-Vandehoven. At 106 Grace Inglish would lose by fall and tie the score at 6-6. Carrington would win the next 7 matches all by fall from Alayna Gussiaas (112), Juliet Davis (118), Adisyn Vandehoven (124), Linda Yuja (130), Kenzie Jost (136), and Hadley Volk (142). Carrington built a 42-6 lead that was just enough to edge WFU as they won the final 5 matches by fall or pin. Khendra Garcia (28-2) lost for the second time this season to Brynlee Hartsoch by fall at 5:10 of the third period.

The Cards couldn’t keep up with second seeded Grand Forks in the quarterfinals falling 54-24. Picking up wins in the dual, all by fall were Garcia at 148, Inglish at 100, Reimche-Vandehoven at 106, and Gussiaas at 112. Grand Forks would pickup wins by fall or forfeit in all of the other 9 matches.

The Cards would bow out of the tourney in the consolation bracket losing to Northern Cass (NC) 42-33. The Cards would get 2 forfeit wins at 100 for Inglish and 148 for Garcia. In return, the Cards gave up three forfeits to NC at 155, 170, and 250. The Cardinals earned 4 additional wins at 118 for Adisyn Vandehoven with a 9-8 decision, Hadley Volk (142) won by fall at 3:39, Nevaeh Sorenson (190) fall at 1:52, and Reimche-Vandehoven (106) fall at 2:22.

Third seeded Lisbon won the championship over fifth seeded South Border 44-26. Valley City (six seed) defeated Fargo (8 seed) 42-30 in the fifth place match. South Border, Lisbon, Grand Forks, and Pembina County North will all advance to the state dual tournament in Fargo on February 21st. Top seeded Pembina County North defeated Valley City in a challenge match 42-36 to advance to the state tournament, second seeded Grand Forks defeated Pembina County North in the third place match 48-30, setting up the challenge match with Valley City.

Carrington will compete in the girls east region individual tournament next Friday at the Hi-Liner Activities Center in Valley City starting at 12:00 P.M.. All Cardinal wrestling will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK THE CARDINAL, FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com
