JAMESTOWN – A longtime rival ruined the Jimmies’ Senior Night.

Seventh-ranked Jamestown Jimmies ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey saw top-ranked Minot State move out to an early lead and never let it go on Wednesday in a 7-3 win for the Beavers at Wilson Arena.

Joey Moffatt scored twice for MSU (26-1-1-0) and four power play goals by the Beavers helped do the Jimmies (22-12-1-0) in.

Moffatt scored only 31 seconds into the game for Minot State, followed by a Sheldin Howard power play tally at 12:19 and the Beavers led 2-0 after one period.

The first of two goals by Carter Johnson put Jamestown within a goal just 1:38 into the second period.  It was unassisted.

Then, Minot State had power play goals from Jay Buchholz at 3:35 and Colby Joseph at 13:44 to lead 4-1.

Johnson scored again for UJ at 13:57 from Matthew McIntyre and Brad Fortin, but Christian Kadolph scored yet another power play goal just 1:54 later and the visitors led 5-2 through 40 minutes.

Moffatt scored again for Minot State at 10:05 of the third period.

Jordan Baranesky, in his final home game, cut the lead to 6-3 with assists from Kaelan Shelton and Jacob Thomas at 16:27.

Reece Henry closed the scoring for MSU with 2:25 to play.

Brandon Weare, also playing for the final time at home in the Jimmie goal, stopped only 10 of 17 Minot State shots.  Jamestown lost despite a 23-17 shot advantage.

The Jimmies will play in the first round of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey tournament in Albert Lea, Minnesota on Friday, February 20.  UJ is the second seed in the tournament and will play seventh seed Midland.
