
Lisbon, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 1 Girls Basketball Tournament began on February 13th in Lisbon with the quarterfinal round. The entire opening round can be heard on KDDR The Tornado and KBMW.

Game 1: #1 Maple River 54-38 #8 Tri-State
The Maple River Raiders did enough to beat the 8 seeded Tigers by a final score of 54-38. The game started slow for both teams as the Tigers struggled shooting going 1/14 in the first quarter as the Raiders took a 16-4 lead to the 2nd. The Tigers would battle hard in the second to keep up with the raiders as they would make it 28-18 going into the half with shooting still being the issue as the Raiders began to look out of sorts. The Raiders would look to Sophia Satrom for answers offensively in the 2nd half as she’d get 12 in the 2nd half to help the Raiders take a 43-31 lead in the 3rd and a 54-38 final victory.
Next up for the Raiders is Warbirds at 6:00 pm tomorrow night while the Tigers will have their season on the line tomorrow at 3:00 pm against the Pirates.
Game 2: #4 Hankinson 41-45 #5 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (OT)
Scoring was hard to come by but the Warbirds knocked off the Pirates to advance to the semifinals winning in overtime 45-41. The game started with almost no scoring through the first two quarters of play with Hankinson up 9-7 through 1 quarter of play then the Warbirds up 17-16 at the half. The Pirates would pull away a bit in the 3rd quarter as they’d build a 27-22 lead going to the 4th but the scoring would dry up for the Pirates late. The Warbirds would battle from behind to take a 38-37 lead with under 10 to go however a foul sent Adlee Mauch to the line who’d tie the game at 38-38 to send it to overtime. The Warbirds however would set the pace of play with several turnovers and the Pirates wouldn’t be able to score a field goal till the end of the game giving the Warbirds the 45-41 victory.
The Warbirds will play in the semifinals tomorrow against the Raiders. The Pirates will play the Tigers in a loser out game at 3:00 pm.
Game 3: #2 Sargent County 55-41 #7 Oakes
The Bulldogs came from behind after a slow first half start to advance to their 3rd straight District semifinals appearance as they beat the Tornados 55-41. The game started with not much scoring as neither team could break through but Oakes would hold the early lead 9-6 through the 1st. The lead would hold for half of the 2nd before the Bulldogs took it back for good taking a 21-19 lead into the half. The Tornados would get into foul trouble in the 3rd as they would allow the Bulldogs a 44-30 lead through 3. The Bulldogs would then hold onto that lead to get the 55-41 final.
The Bulldogs will now play the Colts in the final game tomorrow night. The Tornados have their season on the line in the 2nd game tomorrow afternoon against the Eagles.
Game 4: #3 Richland 38-37 #6 Enderlin
The Colts come back from 10 down to beat the Eagles 38-37. The game started out as an extremely low scoring affair with the score being 6-2 after 1 quarter of play with the Eagles leading most of the game. They would extend that lead to 16-9 at the half and 28-18 after 3 quarters of play. The Colts would fight back with an avengence in the 4th however as they would take a 37-35 lead with under a minute to go. The Eagles would then get Jaina Olson to the line with 5.8 left to tie the game at 37-37 however a foul to Shelby Granhodlt at half court with 3 seconds left would send her to the line where she would miss her first but get her second to clinch the 38-37 victoy.
The Colts are into the semifinals where they will play Sargent County in the final game of the night tomorrow. The Eagles will play the Tornadoes in the 2nd game tomorrow in a loser out game.
