Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes Junior Beau Thorpe entered the night 13 points from 1000 career points, 3 3-pointers away from breaking the school record for career 3-pointers, and 10 3-pointers away from breaking the single season record of 3 pointers. He walked out of the Oakes south gym with 1026 points, the holder of school record for career 3-pointers, and 6 3-pointers away from breaking the single season record as he led the Tornados to a 76-52 victory over the Maple River Raiders.
The game started out slow once again for the Tornados as the Raiders dominated possession time throughout the first half but the stout Oakes defense held the Raider to a measly 2 field goals in the 1st quarter. Beau Thorpe would begin his dominance early with 10 points in the 1st to help lift Oakes to a 16-6 lead. Beau would then start the 2nd with a 3 ball to get him to his 1000th career point resulting in a Jeremy Sitzler timeout and a standing ovation from the crowd. The Tornados would switch from a man defense to a zone defense in the quarter but that would result in them getting burned consistently from the Raiders who would go 8/15 on the quarter to keep pace with the Tornados and more specifically Thorpe who would score 14 on the quarter as Oakes would take a 37-24 lead into the locker rooms.

The Tornadoes would slow down in the 3rd quarter as they would only go 4/10 from the field while Blake Theurer would take advantage of the Oakes zone defense to knock down a couple 3’s however Oakes would manage to expand their lead to 51-36 going into the final frame with Thorpe scoring 8 more in the 3rd and 7 more in the 4th to total 39 points. Reese Nitshke would also come alive in the 4th as he’d go 4/4 with 9 points and Trey Miles would even hit a 3 ball to help give the Tornados a 76-52 victory in their final home game of the regular season.
Both Beau and Jack Thorpe were named Bank North Players of the Game.
The Tornados will now travel to LaMoure on Thursday to take on the Loboes in the final game of the regular season with pregame on the 19th beginning at 6:45 pm and tip off scheduled for 7:00 pm on KDDR The Tornado (provided coverage of state wrestling is done otherwise the game will be on Thunder 106.1).
