BEMIDJI, MN – Two days after disappointment in Duluth for Jamestown Jimmies Basketball, there was bliss in Bemidji.

The Jamestown women played one of their more complete games of the season in a 75-63 over Bemidji State at the Sanford Center in the 218 Sports Showcase.  The Jimmie men stayed in a tie for the NSIC North Division lead with a 74-67 win over the Beavers.

Women: Jamestown 75, Bemidji State 63
Defensive pressure from Jamestown (7-17, 5-15 NSIC) helped lead to a convincing victory. The Jimmies forced 20 turnovers against the Beavers (8-16, 5-15), who were playing their fourth straight game without standout post player Kassandra Caron.

Jamestown’s force in the post, Allie Berns, starred again with 21 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.  Jessika Lofstrom also scored 21 with three three-pointers with seven rebounds.  Samantha Paulsen scored 11.  Hali Savela poured in eight points and six rebounds and five assists.

As they led most of the game, the Jimmies held off Bemidji State, leading 35-29 at halftime and by as much as 15 late in the fourth quarter.

While Jamestown forced turnovers, it had one of its best games this season taking care of the ball, committing just eight miscues.

Tieryn Plasch scored 23 for Bemidji State, who lost for the sixth straight game.

A recent surge in offense for Thomas Diew continued for Jamestown (13-13, 11-9 NSIC). Diew scored 24, his best game as a Jimmie, with six rebounds. Diew has averaged 14.9 points per game in his last eight games and 20.0 in his last three.

Anthony Walters, held to only seven points in Thursday’s loss at Minnesota Duluth, scored 18 with four three-pointers. Owen Hektner knocked down three treys and scored 12. Ford Okehi put in 10.

Henry Shannon III scored a career-high 30 for Bemidji State (8-17, 5-15) with 11 rebounds. But John Pecarich, the NSIC’s second-leading scorer, was limited to seven points, thanks mostly to relentless defense by Jamestown’s Cole Glasgow.

The Jimmies led 29-21 before BSU forged a 14-4 run and led 35-34 at halftime.

Jamestown rallied in winning for the sixth time this season after trailing through 20 minutes. Glasgow ended a 21-10 run with a layup to put Jamestown into a 60-51 lead with 9:56 left. A free throw by Shannon put Bemidji State down only 70-67 with 2:08 left, but a Diew layup and two Okehi free throws provided the final margin.

UJ remains in a share of the NSIC North Division lead with two games remaining. Jamestown and Minnesota Duluth are 11-9 in conference, one game ahead of Northern State and two games ahead of MSU Moorhead.

The Jimmies will play their final home games of the season Thursday at Harold Newman Arena against Minot State. Coverage will begin Thursday at 5:00 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1. Live and archived video will be available on the NSIC Network.
