Lisbon, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 1 Girls Basketball Tournament wrapped up on February 16th in Lisbon with the quarterfinal round. The Region Qualifiers and District Championship can be heard on KDDR The Tornado and KBMW.

Region Qualifier #1 – #3 Richland 48-60 #4 Hankinson 

The Hankinson Pirates are on to the Region Tournament for the first time in this 3 class era as they beat the Richland Colts 60-48. The Colts came out of the gates strong turning over the Pirates several times to take an early lead before the Pirates settled into a groove and began to outrebound the Colts and take a 16-9 lead through the 1st quarter. The Colts would continue to rush shots and only hit 3 field goals in the 2nd quarter as the Pirates would extend the lead to 29-15. The Colts would begin to hit 3’s in the 3rd quarter and bring the lead down to 12 as the Pirates would lead 41-29 through 3. The Colts would even mount a comeback to bring it to within 5 but they would get in foul trouble late and send the Pirates to the line a lot to end the game resulting in Hankinson winning 62-48.

The Colts’ season comes to a close with a 10-12 record while the Pirates will play the LaMoure-LM Loboes in Jamestown on Monday.

Region Qualifier #2 – #5 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 39-35 (OT) #6 Enderlin

The Warbirds came back from down 10 to send themselves back to the Region 1 Tourney beating the Eagles in overtime 39-35. The game started out slow with neither team able to find their stride as the Eagles would lead it 9-7 after 1. The Eagles would then extend that lead to 19-11 at the half. The Warbirds would soon find themselves down by 10 in the 3rd quarter before beginning to come back backing it 24-17going into the 4th. Pailsee Erbes would then throw the Warbirds on her back and score 12 in the quarter to help tie the game at 33-33 to send it to overtime. In overtime the Eagles would only muster 1 field goal as the Warbirds would take the game 39-35.

The Eagles season comes to a close with a 10-11 record while the Warbirds will play the Linton-HMB on Monday in Jamestown.

District 1 Championship – #1 Maple River 45-32 #2 Sargent County

The Maple River Raiders repeat as District 1 Champions as they once again beat the Bulldogs by a score of 45-32. The game started out with neither team able to get their footing as the Bulldogs took an early 11-9 lead. They would extend that lead as the Raiders struggled shooting in the 2nd quarter resulting in a 23-18 Bulldog lead at the half. The Raiders then would strike back in the 3rd quarter as the Bulldogs began to struggle from the field as they would only net 3 baskets in the 3rd resulting in the Raiders taking a 32-30 lead after 3. The Raiders then clamped down and only allowed the Bulldogs to score 1 basket in the entire 4th quarter taking home the 45-32 victory.

The Bulldogs will now play the Kidder County Wolves on Monday while the Raiders will take on the EKM Rebels.
