FARGO – Now, it takes a big finish and help for Jamestown Blue Jays Girls Hockey to make the state tournament.

Jamestown lost to league leader Fargo North/South Tuesday 8-1 at the Fargo Coliseum.  With a win by Minot United on Tuesday, the Jays (4-14-1-2, 4-14-0-2 League) trail Minot United by five points for the last state tournament spot.

The league-leading Spruins (20-1-1-0, 20-0-1-0) scored four times in the first period to take control, with two goals from Jada Purdy and one each by Makenna Kiland and Brooklyn Woodard.  Lauren Terstriep, Emma Ness and Maci Gunderson scored in the middle period for a 7-0 Fargo North/South lead through two.

Maci Fisher scored the Blue Jays’ only goal at 1:18 of the third period.  Brenna Doll scored the last Spruins’ goal at 5:07.

Jamestown will play Thursday at Devils Lake.  They must win that game and the home finale against Grand Forks Saturday, both in regulation, and have Minot United lose to Mandan on Thursday to make the state tournament.
