
JAMESTOWN – The start of the second event within the Nelson Family Bubble for Jamestown Jimmies Softball first meant the extension of an unbeaten start, but then came the season’s first loss.
Jamestown defeated Concordia-Moorhead Saturday 7-1, but then lost to UMary 3-2.

Trinity Gregg drove in two runs and Abby Blair earned her second win in the circle as the Jimmies stayed unbeaten at 6-0.
A three-run second inning vaulted UJ to an early advantage. Tori Olson drove in the first run with a single, Peyton Quam tripled in another run and Gregg singled in a third.
Kasydi Bennett grounded out to drove in a run in the third. Gregg slammed an RBI triple and Lauren Weigel followed with an RBI double in a two-run fourth.
Sydney Grendler hit her second home run of the season in the fifth.
Gregg (2-0) pitched the first six innings, allowing a run and seven hits while striking out four and walking four.
UMary 3, Jamestown 2
An error by the Marauders (5-5) scored the first run for the Jimmies (6-1) in the first inning, but UMary struck for their three runs in the sixth. An error by Jamestown’s Natalie Draper scored the tying run and Madison Hunter put UMary in front with a two-run double.
Jamestown had the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the seventh and a bases-loaded walk to Kate Geiszler brought the Jimmies to within 3-2. Then, UMary pitcher Elyssa Verploegen struck out Bennett and induced ground ball force outs by Gregg and Weigel to end the game.
Hope Ransome (2-1) pitched the first five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) and five hits with four strikeouts.
On Saturday, the Jimmies will host Dakota Wesleyan at 9:00 AM and Dickinson State at 8:00 PM.
