Fargo, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Carrington boys wrestling team (5 seed) started the day on a high with a win over 4th seeded Hettinger-Scranton (HS) 33-30 before finishing the day with a pair of losses to top seeded Velva and third seeded Kindred.

Quarterfinal

The biggest win of the day went to Gabe Inglish at the 107 pound match. Inglish finished 5th in the individual tournament and trailed the state champion Alberto Verdin 5-0 in the third period before hitting a move called the cement mixer that put the state champ on his back and Inglish finished the move with a fall at 5:31 of the third period that put the Cardinals up 31-24. Seventh grader Landin Clifton followed up the Inglish victory with a hard fought 3-2 win over sophomore Austin Orminston that sealed the Cardinal team win. Leading 33-24 the Cardinals forfeited the 121 pound that would have had Mason Cook as a favorite to extend the lead but was not needed. HS started the dual with 4 straight wins and built a 18-0 lead. The Cardinals would win 7 of the next 8 matches starting with  Kallen Wolsky (FR.) a 10-3 decision over Tyler Hoffland.  Wins by fall from Gabe Clifton at 160 over Stone Stadheim in :27 seconds and forfeit wins at 172 and 285 went to Nick Garber and Charlie Jorgensen. The Cards would give up a forfeit at 189 to Cyrus Roseland before Jacob Hinrichs 11-2 major decision over Brodie Sott at 215 pounds.

Semifinal

The top seeded Velva Aggies started the dual with 21 straight points before Gabe Clifton picked up a win at 160 pounds with an 11-2 major decision over Raider Barstad. State runner-up Nick Garber at 160 would face 4th place finisher Lexton Smith at 160 in the 172 pound match and after a scoreless first period Smith would catch Garber in a cradle early in the second period and win by fall. The Aggies would build a 45-4 lead through the 285 weight before Gabe Inglish (107) would win by fall, Landin Clifton (114) win 8-6 decision, and Mason Cook (121) picked up a 6-3 decision.

3rd place

The Cards would get down early again, trailing 18-0 before Gabe Clifton scored a 9-2 decision over Cameron Kittleson. The Cards would only win 5 matches total in the dual. Charlie Jorgensen (285) had a 4-1 decision over Cole Richard, Inglish (107) defeated Jaden Rude 11-4, Landin Clifton (114) defeated Nola Menge by major decision 9-0, and Mason Cook (121) would win by fall in :41 over Bristol Swanson.

Lisbon, the number 2 seed defeated top seeded Velva in the championship dual 36-22. The Lisbon Broncos also won the individual state tournament capping off a dominant weekend on the class B boys. Bowman County-Beach defeated Hettinger-Scranton 40-18 in the 5th place match, and Williams County defeated Pembina County North 52-21 in the 7th place match.

The Cardinals wrapped up the weekend with a 5th place finish in the individual tournament and 4th place finish in the team duals. Jacob Hinrichs is the only senior on the team and the Cards will return a very good and young team in 2026-27.
