
Women: Rocky Mountain 82, VCSU 56
The VCSU women saw their season come to an end with an 82-56 loss to No. 23 Rocky Mountain.
The Bears set the tone early, jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the opening minutes and extending the margin to 25-10 by the end of the first quarter. Valley City State showed resilience in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to as few as 10 points, but Rocky Mountain maintained control and carried a 40-27 lead into halftime.
Rocky Mountain put the game out of reach with a dominant third quarter, building a 68-42 advantage entering the fourth before cruising to the win.
JayCee Richter led the Vikings with 17 points, three rebounds and an assist, while Ellie Braaten added 15 points and three assists. VCSU shot 31.8% from the field, while the Bears finished at 50%.
The Vikings conclude the season 10-16 overall and 7-15 in conference play.
Men: Rocky Mountain 85, VCSU 55
The Rocky Mountain men erupted for 57 second-half points to defeat Valley City State 85-55 and secure the sweep.
The first half was a tight, defensive battle that saw the lead change hands five times. Valley City State briefly held an early lead before the Bears grabbed a 9-8 advantage midway through the half and went into the locker room ahead 28-23.
Rocky Mountain took control early in the second half, ripping off a decisive 21-0 run that pushed the lead into double figures and effectively ended the contest.
Kaleb Larson paced the Vikings with 18 points and seven rebounds, while JR Cison added 11 points and two assists. Seniors Nick Carlson and Caden Grinde scored five and three points, respectively, off the bench in the final games of their collegiate careers.
The VCSU men finish the season 10-17 overall and 6-16 in conference play.
