DEVILS LAKE (NewsDakota)- The Carrington Cardinal girls basketball team has a goal in mind.  And on Monday, they took the first step towards achieving it.

Sophomore Aniston Hoornaert scored twenty points and the top-seeded Cardinals defeated eighth-seeded Harvey/Wells County 54-27 to advance to a Region 2A Semifinal on Tuesday night.

After the Hornets (6-16) got a game-opening three from Rachel Neumiller, the Cardinals (19-3) went on an immediate 7-0 run and would not trail again.  Every one of Carrington’s nine field goals in the first half were assisted on as Carrington built a 24-12 lead at the main break.

The third quarter saw the Cards erupt for 21 points, including ten of Hoornaert’s game-high total, as Carrington put the result beyond doubt and led 45-20 through three quarters.  The fourth quarter was littered with reserves as the Cardinals closed out their seventeenth consecutive victory.

Carrington will face (4) Four Winds-Minnewaukan, who defeated (5) Hillsboro-Central Valley 50-47, in the first Regional Semifinal on Tuesday with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 5:00 PM.
