
DICKINSON – Jamestown Blue Jays Girls Basketball didn’t fool around Tuesday. They knew that they had to start well against a team they expected to defeat easily. They did.
For the first time since 2023, Jamestown’s girls avoid the play-in round of the West Region tournament. They’re the fifth seed after an 82-45 win at Dickinson.
The Jamestown boys now must go on the road for their play-in game on Friday after losing 89-70 to Dickinson on Tuesday.
Girls: Jamestown 82, Dickinson 45
Jamestown (11-10, 9-9 WDA) led 8-0 and 20-3 on their way to a 57-20 halftime lead and shot 53 percent in the first 18 minutes against the Mavericks (3-19, 0-18), who have now lost 45 straight in the regular season against WDA opponents.
Macey Neumiller scored 21 for Jamestown, 16 of which came in the first half. Adisyn Yunck scored 12 on four first half three-pointers. Haley Attleson scored 10. Claire Marker had nine points and 13 rebounds.
Abby Praus scored 12 to lead Dickinson.
Jamestown finished in a three-way tie for fourth in the WDA standings with Bismarck and Legacy. Bismarck earned the fourth seed by going 3-1 against Jamestown and Legacy. Jamestown took the fifth seed over Legacy due to a points tiebreaker.
The Blue Jays will meet fourth seed Bismarck in the quarterfinal round of the West Region tournament at the Bismarck Event Center on Thursday, March 5, scheduled for 2:45 PM. Coverage will begin at approximately 2:30 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
Boys: Dickinson 89, Jamestown 70
Dickinson (15-6, 13-5 WDA) broke apart a tight game with a 13-0 run in the first half that stretched a 14-12 lead to 27-12. The Mavericks wrapped up the third seed for next week’s West Region tournament.
Five scored in double figures for Dickinson, and they were five of the nine seniors saluted in their final home game. Cameron Wolf had 17 points. Paxton Lyson and Nate Stevenson each tallied 14. Boston Cranston scored 11 and Jordan Daychild had 10.
Eric van Berkom scored 13 points for Jamestown (5-16, 3-15). Edison Walters and Griffin Gegelman scored 12 each. Jamison Kleinjan had 11.
Jamestown is the ninth seed for the West Region tournament, so the Blue Jays must go on the road for their play-in game, which will be on Friday against eighth seed Minot North. Coverage will begin at around 5:45 PM. It will be on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1, or if Blue Jays Boys Hockey is playing in a state semifinal, basketball coverage will be on Q101.
