Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament entered its 2nd day of play with 2 Loser out games and 2 Semifinal Games on March 2nd at the Valley City Hi-Liner Activity Center. You can catch all of the action on KDDR The Tornado and KBMW.

Loser Out #1- #5 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 70-29 #8 Enderlin

The Warbirds advanced back to their 3rd straight Region Qualifier as they handled the Eagles 70-29. The game started with the Warbirds on fire taking an early 20-5 lead through 1 quarter of play. Blaise Frolek would come alive in the 2nd quarter to lead the Warbirds to a 41-12 lead at the half. The game would continue all Warbirds as they took a 61-19 lead through 3 and then won the game 70-29.

The Eagles season comes to a close with a 4-18 record. The Warbirds keep their season alive and will play tomorrow at 4:30 against either Oakes or Maple River in a Region Qualifier.

Loser Out #2- #3 Barnes County North 58-55 #7 Tri-State

The Bison survived and advanced to the Region Qualifier as they fought from behind to beat the Tigers 58-55. The game started with back and forth play that would continue the entire game as the Tigers would take a last second 16-14 lead through 1 quarter of play. The game would keep being back and forth as the Tigers would hold onto a 1 point lead going into the half at 30-29. The Bison would start the 3rd with a 11-2 run before the Tigers turned it on for a 12-3 run to take a 51-43 lead going into the final frame. The Bison would come to life in the final frame and go on a 15-4 run in the quarter to take home the 58-55 win.

The Tigers season comes to a close with a 6-14 record. The Bison advance to the Region Qualifiers against either Hankinson or Sargent County in Region Qualifier #2 tomorrow night.

Semifinal #1 – #1(4) Hankinson 73-67 #4 Sargent County

The Pirates held on to beat a surging Bulldogs squad by a final score of 73-67. The game started all Pirates as they built a quick 23-13 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Bulldogs would start to eat into the Pirates lead making it 42-34 going into the half. The 3rd quarter saw the Bulldogs battling hard making it as close as 2 points several times but they couldn’t take the lead as the Pirates would have a 57-53 lead through 3. The Pirates would see their lead cut to single possessions several times in the 4th but the Bulldogs would get into foul trouble allowing the Pirates to hold on to win 73-67.

The Bulldogs will play BCN in the 2nd game tomorrow night in a Region Qualifier. The Pirates have clinched a Region Tourney berth and will play in the District 1 Championship tomorrow night.

Semifinal #2- #2(RV) Oakes 74-57 #6 Maple River

The Tornadoes had to come from behind to beat the Raiders and continue their District 1 Title defense as they advance with a 74-57 victory. The game started with the Tornadoes jumping to a 6-0 lead before the Raiders went on a 12-4 run to take a 12-10 lead after the 1st. The Raiders would extend their lead to 32-28 at the half with Blake Theurer coming alive. The Tornadoes would finally find their rhythm in the 2nd half as they would come out firing and retake the lead ending up in front with Jyles Meier and Beau Thorpe leading them to a 56-42 lead. The Tornadoes would maintain that lead and take home the 74-57 victory.

The Raiders will now play in game one tomorrow against Wyndmere-Lidgerwood in a region qualifier. The Tornadoes will defend their District Title against the Pirates in a repeat of last years District 1 Championship.
