WINTER HAVEN, FL – A big inning led to a first for this season for Jamestown Jimmies Baseball.
Jamestown scored eight runs in the seventh inning Wednesday in a rally capped by a Jacob Thomas inside-the-park home run in a 11-5 win over West Virginia Wesleyan at Chain of Lakes Park. The Jimmies (3-11) have back-to-back victories for the first time in 2026.
UJ entered the last of the seventh down 5-3 before Thomas doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a ground out. Mason Shea was hit by a pitch. Dallas Cummings ran for Shea and stole second. Jett Nelson tied the game at 5-5 with a two-run single.
A single by Melvin Maldonado and a walk to Benney Benitez loaded the bases. Julian Romero was then hit by an Adiel Rivera pitch to gave Jamestown a 6-5 advantage. Mathieu Morin drove in a run with a ground ball, then an error made the Jimmie lead 8-5 before Thomas’ home run.
Jamestown had the early lead, scoring a run in the first on a Trayson Kostial RBI fielder’s choice and two in the second on an RBI double by Morin and an Adrian Warcken sacrifice fly.
West Virginia Wesleyan (1-9) gained the lead with four runs in the fourth inning, then scored another in the fifth.
Isaac Hanson (2-0) earned the victory in relief. Starter Kai Mayfield allowed four runs and six hits in just two innings.
On Friday, the Jimmies will start a four-game series with Concordia-St. Paul in Davenport, Florida. The first three games of that series, Friday’s single game and Saturday’s doubleheader, will be NSIC games.
