DAVENPORT, FL – A rally didn’t do quite enough, and Jamestown Jimmies Baseball still looks for a first-ever NSIC win.
Concordia-St. Paul led 4-0 through two innings, then held on for a 6-4 win over Jamestown Friday in the first game of a three-game conference series and four-game overall series at Northeast Regional Park.
Starting pitching continues to be a struggle for Jamestown (3-12, 0-4 NSIC). Luke Zimmer (0-3) allowed six runs (four earned) in five and a third innings with eight hits, three strikeouts and a walk. Elias Harris, Beckett Stimpson and Grayson Sargent then combined for two and a third scoreless innings in relief.
Kaden Johnson, Charlie Harms and Nick Carlson had two hits each for CSP (5-7, 2-2). Harms also stole home. Harms and Eli Nelson had RBI singles.
The Jimmies trailed 4-0 before Trayson Kostial hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth. UJ came within 4-3 in the sixth with an RBI single by Ben Patton and a sacrifice fly by Mathieu Morin.
CSP then scored twice in their sixth to again lead by three at 6-3.
Jamestown rallied in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Dallas Cummins led the inning off with a triple. With one out, Frankie Malagon walked and Jett Nelson then singled in Cummins for a 6-4 Golden Bears’ lead. CSP brought in closer Justin Benjamin, who struck out Bode Joyner for the second out, then induced a ground force out by Ben Swennumson to end the game.
The Jimmies will meet CSP in a conference doubleheader Saturday in Davenport, Florida, then play the Golden Bears in a non-conference game on Sunday.
