
KANSAS CITY, MO – Despite better play, Jamestown Jimmies Men’s Volleyball came up empty in their first weekend of GLVC play.
Rockhurst swept Jamestown Saturday 28-26, 25-18, 25-20 at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Shay Spadaro had 13 kills, three aces and six digs for Rockhurst (9-9, 2-0 GLVC). Wesley Husk and Quentin Huhman had nine kills each for the Hawks.
Chase Hawkinson notched 14 aces for Jamestown (6-13, 0-2). Ladarius Williams had five kills and three digs.
UJ led by three at one point in the first set and led 24-22 on a Hawkinson kill, but Spadaro had two kills in a run of three straight points that gave Rockhurst a 25-24 lead. Rowan Shaughnessy killed to keep Jamestown in the set at 25-25. Spadaro killed for a 26-25 Hawks’ lead, but Williams then killed for the Jimmies for a 26-26 score. Huhman then had successive kills to give Rockhurst the first set. Jamestown hit .364 in the first set.
An 8-2 run by Rockhurst gave the Hawks an 11-6 lead in the second set. Hawkinson had four kills in the set and Williams three for the Jimmies, but they were not again closer than four points.
After a 5-5 tie in the third set, Rockhurst then scored eight points of the next 10. Two kills by Hawkinson and an ace by Ethan Carroll brought UJ within 16-13, but the Hawks scored the next five on their way to the sweep.
Jamestown will resume conference play Friday and Saturday against Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois.
