VALLEY CITY, N.D. (PPR) – The Public Service Commission has designated BEK Telephone as the “incumbent local exchange company” in Valley City.

Century Link had been the incumbent. It now becomes the “competitive local exchange company.” PSC Chairman Randy Christmann explains.

Christmann said Century Link testified that it provided service to 276 voice lines, and 85 broadband lines in Valley City.

BEK was also approved for “etc” status, which stands for “essential telecommunications carrier. It means BEK is eligible for federal universal service funding.
