
Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Region 1 Boys Basketball Tournament wrapped up on March 10th with the Region 1 3rd place and Championship games at the Valley City Hi-Liner Activity Center. You can catch all of the action on KDDR The Tornado and Thunder 98.3.

3rd Place Game (Winner to the SHAC to play R2#2): Kidder County 49-58 Linton-HMB
The Lions held off the Wolves as they advance to Last Chance Saturday with a 58-49 victory. The game started with the Wolves jumping out to an early 9-2 lead but the Lions would roar back and get themselves out to a 12-11 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. They would trade the lead back and forth in the 2nd till around 4 mins left when the Lions would go on a 12-2 run to take a 31-21 lead to end the half. The Wolves would not go quietly into the goodnight however as they would keep up with the Lions and cut the deficit to 6 at 41-35 through 3. The lead would dwindle to 4 multiple times but wouldn’t get closer as the Lions would ward off the Wolves and win 58-49.
The Wolves’ season comes to a close with a 14-11 record. The Lions advance to Last Chance Saturday at the SHAC in Fargo looking for their 1st State Tourney berth since 2014 against the Region 2 Runner Up.
Championship (Winner to State): EKM 46-52 MPB
The Thunder take their 2nd Region Title of the decade as they beat the Rebels by a score of 52-46. The game started with a lot of back and forth play as the Thunder battled to a 12-8 lead after the 1st. The Rebels would keep up with the Thunder in the 2nd quarter as it’d be 20-17 going into the half. The Thunder then popped off for 21 points in the 3rd quarter to take a 41-33 lead. The Rebels would bring the lead down to 4 several times in the 4th however the Thunder would stave off the Rebels to take home the Title and the State Berth with a 52-46 victory.
The Rebels will play in last chance Saturday against North Star at the SHAC at 5:00 pm. The Thunder go to Minot as Region 1 Champs.
