CASS COUNTY, N.D. (CCSO) – Sheriff Jesse Jahner was notified that former Cass County Deputy Carson Quam has been sentenced for crimes that were investigated by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Upon receiving notification of the sentence, Sheriff Jahner issued the following statement: “I have learned of the sentence that was given to Carson Quam earlier today. This is a situation that was hard for our community, hard for the men and women of our agency who work daily to maintain a high level of professionalism, and most definitely for the victims who were exploited through this activity. In my opinion, no sentence is enough when children are victimized by crime. We hope that the full length of the sentence will be served and that Carson will find a way to apologize to the victims, our community, and our agency for his actions.  I would like to personally thank the North Dakota Bureau of Investigation for its investigation. Investigations involving current law enforcement officers are inherently challenging and uncomfortable. In this case, however, the ND BCI conducted a thorough and professional investigation, remaining impartial and upholding the rule of law regardless of the individual involved.”

Quam terminated his employment with Cass County amidst the investigation.

Quam was sentence on ten Class C Felony counts of Possession of Certain Materials Prohibited. Under North Dakota Law a Class C Felony sentence is Five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
