
VALLEY CITY, ND (Ryan Cunningham, NewsDakota.com) Derek Shape brought home the lone title for the Hi-Liners in the indoor track and field debut at Concordia last Saturday.
Shape won the 200 meter run for the Hi-Liners, one of seven individual and team placewinners at the event. Morgan Larson was a runner-up in the 200 meters, and Layni Bakalar was runner up in the long jump.
Larson added a fifth in the 55 meters, and Larson and Bakalar teamed with Kinley Larson and Chesney Thomsen to place third in the 800 meter relay.
Thomsen placed fifth in the 200 meters, Kellen Westman won fourth place in the high jump and eighth in the long jump, and Brooklyn Botz was seventh in the long jump.
Head coach Trevor Bakalar said of the meet, “In their first indoor meet of the season, the Hi-Liners recorded an impressive 23 personal records, showing the hard work the athletes have put in during the preseason. The team also saw 11 athletes place in their respective events, highlighting both experienced competitors and emerging talent.”
Valley City goes to UND Friday.
