JAMESTOWN – A combination of early leads by Concordia-St. Paul and miscues by Jamestown Jimmies Softball made for a rough Sunday for the home team.

CSP swept a doubleheader from Jamestown 10-4 and 8-3 inside the Nelson Family Bubble.

Game 1: Concordia-St. Paul 10, Jamestown 4
Conference co-leader CSP (18-12, 7-0 NSIC) scored five runs in the first inning and five unearned runs in the fifth while taking advantage of seven errors by Jamestown (19-11, 0-7).

Katie Klotz capped the big first inning for the Golden Bears with a two-run single. The Jimmies committed two errors in that inning, leading to two unearned runs. UJ had three more errors in CSP’s big fifth inning. Lily Burke, Danni Sharum and Ava Blake also drove in runs for CSP. Winning pitcher Emily Bowne (8-6) allowed three runs and five hits in four innings.

Trinity Gregg drove in two runs for Jamestown with an RBI single and an RBI triple. Also, Kasydi Bennett had a sacrifice fly and Lauren Weigel drove in a run with a ground out. Hope Ransome (5-6) retired only one batter, giving up five runs and four hits. This was the second straight game that a Jimmie starter was removed in the first inning.

CSP (19-12, 8-0 NSIC) had another big first inning, scoring four times. Two more errors by Jamestown (19-12, 0-8) led to two of the runs. Sharum and Klotz also had RBI singles in the inning.

Maddie Spaeth cut the lead in half for UJ with a two-run triple in the bottom of the first. The Jimmies were down only 4-3 after a second inning RBI double by Weigel.

However, CSP captured the four-run lead again with a four-run third inning. Bryleigh Dana doubled in the inning’s first run, a wild pitch brought in the second and Alexis Monty doubled in the last two.

Tatum Dunlavy (7-5) pitched a complete game win with eight strikeouts for the Golden Bears. UJ’s Aubrey Quern (6-3) allowed eight runs (six earned) in two and two-thirds innings.

On Friday, the Jimmies will play a conference doubleheader at MSU Moorhead.
