BELLEVUE, Neb. (VCSU Sports Information) – Bellevue earned a sweep of the first two games of the four-game series with Valley City State. The Bruins took the first game 20-4 and the second game 12-2.

Valley City Stats is now 14-13 overall and 1-5 in the Frontier Conference. The fourth ranked Bruins are 25-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

GAME 1: Bellevue 20, Valley City State 4
Bellevue score 14 runs in the fifth inning, breaking a 3-3 tie on the way to a 20-4 win in game 1. The Vikings had opportunities early in the game, leading the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings.
The Bruins scored two in the bottom of the second as the two runs scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by Anthony Lind to make it 2-0 Bellevue.

A leadoff home run by Carter Claerhout to center field in the bottom of the third, making it 3-0 after three.

Valley City State rallied in the top of the fifth. Hunter Logan led off the inning with a double down the right field line. He moved third on Cody Wielgosh’s ground out. Alexis Velasco was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners. Nick Senn lined a single to center, scoring Logan to make it 3-1. With two out and runners at the corners, Anthony Madsen doubled down the left field line, scoring Merik Junker and Kaden Rozdeba to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom half of the fifth, Bellevue sent 17 batters to the plate scored 14 runs and to control of the game.

The Bruins added three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 20-3 lead.

The Vikings scored one in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Merik Junker to make the final 20-4.

Anthony Madsen was 1 for 3 with two RBI for VCSU. Hunter Logan was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Nick Senn was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Kaden Rozdeba was 1 for 2 with a run scored, and Brady Papineau was 1 for 3.

GAME 2: Bellevue 12, Valley City State 2 F/7
Bellevue scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to break open the game in a 12-2 win in game two.

In the bottom of the second, the Bruins tallied a run on Nick Gravel’s RBI single.

In the third, Carter Claerhout hit a home run to right-center field to lead off the inning, making it 2-0. Xavier Lerma hit a two-run shot to right to make it 4-0. Gravel singled in two runs to make it 6-0. Oak Held and Claerhout had RBI singles to make it 8-0.

Valley City State got a run back in the top of the fourth on Nick Senn’s solo home run.

Brady Papineau scored on a double play in the top of the fifth to make it 8-2.

A sacrifice fly by the Bruins Held made it 9-2 after five. A solo home run by Dylan Holmes and an RBI double by Anthony Lind made it 11-2 after six.

The Bruins ended the game early when a run scored on an error to make the final 12-2.

Nick Senn was 1 for 2 with a solo home run. Brady PapineauCody Wielgosh, and Devon Minney were all 1 for 3. Papineau scored a run. Evan Gonzalez was 1 for 1.
