COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (VCSU Sports Information) – The Valley City State Viking Track and Field team went to Minnesota to compete at the St. John’s Optimistic Invitational in Collegeville, Minnesota on Saturday.

The Vikings had eight top three finishes and 27 personal bests on the day.

For the Women, Frida Barrera had two top three finishes and two personal bests. The Freshman was third in the 800 Meters with a personal best 2:20.45. She was second in the 1500 Meters with a personal best 4:52.24. Fellow distance runner Paiton Flick had two personal bests in the 800 Meters and the 1500 Meters. Cassidy Shute had personal bests in the 400 and 800 Meters. Billie Maye Pohlkamp had a personal best in the 800 Meters.

Olivia Backus was third in both the High Jump and Long Jump. Grace Backstrom had a personal best in the Long Jump.

In the Sprints, Ava KrierJonica Taylor, and Peyton Sauter had personal bests in the 100 Meter Dash.

It was another good day for the throwers, especially Greta Mckenney. She had personal bests in the Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin. Kiana Hilary had two personal bests in the Shot Put and Javelin.

On the Men’s side, Jordan Mount had another strong showing with a top three finish and was part of the third place 4×100 Relay team. Mount took third in the 200 Meters with a time of 22.56. He along with Aaron CutshallTommy Baldwin, and Brock Norton took third in the 4X100 relay.

Isaac Eichhorst and Kole Albers had personal bests in the 1500 Meters and 5000 Meters respectively.

In the jumps, Zeke Barnick was second in the High Jump. Joel Nelson had one of his two personal bests in the Long Jump as well as the Javelin.

Cameron Champagnie was second in the Long Jump. Jeffry Rosinski and Porter Granger had personal bests in the Long Jump.

For the throwers, Nevin Daley had personal bests in the Discus and Hammer Throw. Jacob Lowery had a personal best in the Discus and Zac Kuznia had a personal best in the Hammer Throw.

UP NEXT: The Vikings have two meets this upcoming weekend. They will have a partial team in Vermillion, South Dakota for the USD Early Bird and also they will have a team in Bismarck at the University of Mary for the Al Bortke Open.
