(NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Township Officers Association (BCTOA) proudly announces that Carol Umsted of Valley Township was awarded the prestigious North Dakota Township Officers Association (NDTOA) Grassroots Government Leadership Award during their Annual Spring meeting.
The NDTOA Grassroots leadership award is presented annually to leaders who exhibits the highest standard of dedication and demonstrates outstanding leadership, creativity, and community service.
Carol was nominated by the BCTOA Board of Directors in recognition of her unwavering dedication to leadership and education. Umstead was selected from a competitive pool of nominees from around the state. She has logged an impressive 47 years of service (and still counting) as Clerk-Treasurer for Valley Township in Barnes County. Carol began her service in 1978; the year Valley Township was first organized. During her decades of service, she has worked with township supervisors in developing and carrying out improvement and safety projects for the well-being of Valley Township residents. She is a servant leader, committed to lifelong learning and guided by a strong work ethic. This recognition reflects Carols dedication and passion for making her community a better place. Bruce Anderson, Chair of the BCTOA stated “It is an honor and privilege to recognize Carol for her commitment to local government”.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday, March 26th at the Valley City Eagles Club, where Township leaders from across Barnes County gathered to learn and to celebrate Umsted’s excellence and innovation.
NDTOA was organized in 1966. The association is an official voice for townships in the Legislature as well as assisting in the improvement and effectiveness of township governments. Organized township governments have been active as local governments since the early days of North Dakota’s history.
