HELENA, Mont. – For the first time since joining the Frontier Conference, Valley City State swept the Softball Players-of-the-Week honors.

Maddy Hazelton earned her second Pitcher-of-the-Week honor on the strength of a solid weekend in the circle.

Hazelton, a sophomore from Winona, Minnesota, appeared in three games, picking up two shutout wins and a save. She tossed 13 innings, allowed just five hits, no runs with three walks and 15 strikeouts.

Hazelton has a 13-inning scoreless streak and had allowed just one run in her last 21 innings.

Kylee Banerd earned her first Player-of-the-Week honor.

Banerd, a sophomore from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, smacked the ball around the VCSU Softball complex this past weekend. She was 7 for 11 at the plate (.636 batting average). She had a slugging percentage of 1.727, and an on-base percentage of .692. She scored five runs and drove in eight. She had four home runs, three coming in the final game of the series along with seven RBI.

The Vikings improved their record to 16-13 overall and 6-2 in the conference. They are scheduled to head to Bismarck Thursday and Friday to play the Mystics in a four-game series.
