
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCPR) – With longer days and warmer weather on the horizon, Valley City Parks and Recreation is getting ready to welcome the community to another exciting summer season filled with opportunities to get outside, get active, and get involved.
Youth programs are a cornerstone of the summer season, offering kids of all ages a chance to learn, grow, and have fun. Popular programs include:
• Play Park – Creative, hands-on activities that spark imagination, movement, and social
interaction
• Pottery – Art sessions with Pederson Pottery for kids and adults to explore painting and
pottery
• Track & Field – Free program at Dacotah Bank Track at Hanna Field teaching fundamentals
of events like long jump and shot put
• Youth Tennis – Programs for all skill levels, from beginners to competitive players, with
additional opportunities through the Valley City Tennis Association (VCTA)
• Swimming Lessons – Classes for all ages focused on water safety, stroke development,
and building confidence
• Youth Baseball & Softball – From T-ball to Boys Travel Baseball and Girls JO Fastpitch,
helping kids learn the game, build skills, and develop teamwork
• Speed & Agility Academy – Fitness and performance-focused training through Mobility
Plus Rehabilitation
There are also opportunities for adults including:
• Sand Volleyball (4×4 Co-Ed) – Open to all skill levels
• Men’s Softball – Competitive league played on Monday nights
• Tennis on Tap / Red Ball Social – Social, fun tennis for ages 21+ with no experience
required
Beyond organized programs and leagues, community members can enjoy free pickle ball and tennis courts, the outdoor pool, a round of golf at Bjornson Golf Course, rent bicycles or kayaks from the rental kiosks, or simply spend time exploring the many parks throughout Valley City.
Summer also brings a full slate of events for the whole community. In 2026, highlights include Music in the Park, Outdoor Aquafit, City Park Block Party, BBQ Pulled Pork Cook-off, Safety in the Park, Sheyenne Riverfest, Paint & Sip, and new events such as Chalk the Block and Birdhouse Painting.
