BOLIVAR, MO – For the second straight day, Jamestown Jimmie Men’s Volleyball was able to take one set, but no more.

Southwest Baptist defeated Jamestown in four sets Saturday 26-24, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16 at Meyer Sports Center.

Donel Sengele and Silas Riggins each had 11 kills and six total blocks for Southwest Baptist (10-9, 2-8 GLVC).  Lucas Phelan had 10 kills.

Amery Roberts was the leader on offense for the Jimmies (6-21, 0-10) with 12 kills and four aces.  She also had eight digs.  Joshua Crowley notched 11 kills and two aces.

Though the Jimmies (46) had only four fewer kills than the Bearcats (50), 28 errors hurt Jamestown, who hit only .154.  SBU hit .365.

In the first set, Jamestown was up 14-12 before Southwest Baptist scored five points in a row, the last two of which were aces by Riggins.  Roberts served an ace to bring the Jimmies within 22-21, but Darrell Kosechequetah Jr. had a kill for set point and a 24-22 SBU lead.  Ethan Carroll and Chase Hawkinson had back-to-back kills for the Jimmies to force extra volleyball, but Kosechequetah had consecutive kills to give the set to the Bearcats.

Hawkinson had three kills as Jamestown started the second set with a 6-3 lead.  After SBU moved to within 12-10, UJ scored four straight, helped by kills by Brady Leppien-Christensen and Joshua Crowley and an ace by Roberts.  Leppien-Christensen killed again for a 17-11 Jimmie lead before SBU ran off eight points straight.  Jamestown rallied with seven of the next nine for a 24-21 lead and set point.  SBU saved one before Roberts killed to even the match for the Jimmies.

UJ was up 9-8 in the third set before the Bearcats scored nine of the next 13 and led 17-12.  Lucas Phelan had two kills late in the set for Southwest Baptist to help them to a 2-1 set lead.  SBU hit .452 in the third set.

Southwest Baptist led only 9-7 in the fourth set, then scored six of the next seven points with kills by Phelan and Sengele.  Jamestown wasn’t again closer than six points.  Phelan, Evan Strahlendorf and Riggins had kills for the last three points for SBU.

The Jimmies will meet Roosevelt University on Friday in Chicago.
